Ford is recalling 440,000 vehicles in North America including 20,000 in Canada due to risks of the engine and doors opening unexpectedly. The first recall is gathered of 230,000 Escape SUVs, Fiesta ST sub compacts, Fusion midsize cars, and Transit Connect vans. Ford told CBC News 21,854 of the affected vehicles are in Canada.
Ford has stated that the engines can overheat which can cause the cylinder head to crack and leak oil that can catch fire. So far there have been no injuries, but there has been 29 reports of fire. They stated that owners can keep the vehicle, but if it overheats or needs constant cooling they must take the vehicle to the dealer. The company is also adding 211,000 vehicles to a previous recall in order to replace faulty door latches. That recall covered the 2014 fiesta, 2013 and 2015 Fusion and Lincoln MKZ.
