Wendy’s plans to install self-ordering kiosks at 1,000 locations by the end of the year. A normal location would have about three kiosks. High-volume restaurants would be given priority for the kiosks. They are intended to appeal to younger customers, and will reduce the labor cost. It will also allow customers to get their food faster and to stop long lines during peak dining hours. Estimates show that the company will see a return on its investment in less than two years of having it. The kiosks were looking to improve their automation and their labor costs, and this is a good way to do so. Studies show that younger customers prefer to use a kiosk. Wendy’s has already installed kiosks at several central Ohio locations. Customers will still be able to order at the counter. Mobile ordering and payment through smart phones will one day overtake self-ordering kiosks and cash registers.
