Dizygotic twins are two offsprings born of the same pregnancy that may be the same or opposite sex, differ both physically and genetically, and have two separate and distinct placentas and membranes. In other words, fraternal twins. In Quincy, Illinois, Whitney Meyer and Tomas Dean have biracial twins.
In a fraternal twin situation, each baby inherits genes from the mom and dad. Since Meyer is Caucasian and Dean is African American, it is possible for the babies to inherit different skin color.
Whitney Meyer and Tomas Dean call their twins ¨Miracle Babies¨. It was a 1 in 500 chance that the babies would be born with different colored skin. The babies are Kalani and Jarani Dean. Kalani has her mother´s light skin and blue eyes, and Jarani has her father’s dark skin and brown eyes.
Meyer told CNN affiliate KHQA, ¨At first when they were born, I wanted to believe it, but it’s so rare I didn’t think it´d happen to my twins!¨
