Jared Scott Fogle, also known as “the Subway Guy”, was the former spokesperson for Subway restaurants up until his arrest in July of 2015 when law enforcement officers raided his Zionsville, Indiana home. They confiscated his computers and other electronic devices because they found he had been exploiting children and minors.
Recently Fogle’s ex-wife, Kathleen McLaughlin, filed a lawsuit against the restaurant. She claims that the chain knew all about his “depravities”. The lawsuit says the international sandwich franchise ignored all complaints and continuously promoted Fogle as a family man.
McLaughlin claims she had no idea of Fogle’s depravities, and she says she would have never married him had she known he was so perverse. Fogle is serving nearly sixteen years in a federal prison for his child exploitation charge.
Monday afternoon, at a conference with her attorneys in their Noblesville office, Mclaughlin said, “I filed this lawsuit because I have questions,” She added, “Questions like: What did Subway know? When did they know it? What investigations did they conduct? Did they ever notify the authorities?” Upon learning of his actions, she said she was shocked, she had no idea he had been exploiting minors.
Fogle and McLaughlin got married in 2010 and have two children, who are now three and five years old. The divorce came shortly after Fogle was arrested, and McLaughlin soon moved to an undisclosed location because she did not want her children in the eyes of media amid all the chaos.
McLaughlin says her young children often ask about the prison. When they reach an older age, she suspects they will continue to ask questions about their father. For now, she wants them to remain safe and out of reach of media simply because she feels that is best for them, and for their future.
“To the victims of my ex-husband, you are never far from my thoughts and prayers.” McLaughlin added on Monday during her conference. Once known as the family man who overcame extreme weight loss, Jared Fogle will now forever be known by his child exploitation charges.
