Senioritis

by RUBY CHAVEZ

Staff Writer

Senioritis can be defined as a “sickness” that hits high school seniors.

High school seniors try to work with a lot on their schedules. For example, they try to balance school work, extracurricular activities, a social life, college applications, and perhaps a part-time job. As time goes by, homework becomes less important to seniors. Spending time with friends becomes more of a priority. Once students receive acceptance letters from their college, they begin to think high school is less important.

The symptoms of senioritis include laziness, not dressing properly for school, lack of studying, and repeated absences.

Some students that turn eighteen during the school year think they can skip out on school whenever. Some even drop out of school several months before school even ends.

As the year goes by, teachers who have an all senior class begin to see the seniors lacking to pay attention in class. Teachers even say it is always second semester that is the worst semester for seniors.

You’ll often hear us seniors says “I’m so ready to graduate!” Or “Can I just graduate and leave this town already?”.

Senioritis comes around every year. Be prepared for it. Enjoy your senior year of high school, because trust me, it goes by super fast.

Batman vs Superman

by CORBIN JOHNSON

Staff Writer

Batman vs Superman has put the fans and the critics at war. While the critics think the movie didn’t come close to its full potential, the fans have a different opinion, giving the movie an 82% as an overall. There was a big argument to if Ben Affleck would play a good Batman, but this is something both the critics and the fans could agree on because he played the best batman they have ever seen, including me. He really gave a new meaning to the “Dark Knight.” Accompanied by other cast members that gave this movie the push it needed. The movie has already made 501.8 million, really putting the critics to shame, The long awaited story of the aftermath with the battle with Superman and the kryptonian general Zod, enraged with the destruction of the city. Batman wants to put an end to superman’s reign, and this.. is how the battle begins. In my personal opinion this movie couldn’t have been any better and the numbers show.

Enforcing Religion on Children

by KAYLA HEIDEBRECHT

Staff Writer

A child’s mind is considered to be vulnerable and easily controllable, mostly because they have not built up their own opinions about a lot of situations going on around the world. Children do not care about politics or controversial topics because they are focused on “kid things” such as going outside to play, learning about the world, and making friends. However, because of this many parents and others will take advantage of the child’s mind by labeling them, especially in religion.

Labeling a child in a religion is taking away their right to make their own decisions and opinions for themselves. Religion is based upon opinionated ideals to others because it is all derived from faith, and there are so many religions. There is a major diversity of religion in the world with very different ideals on what to believe in and what to follow, which does not make it a fact because it is not fully proven to be true (major reason which is why it needs faith). It is not ok to force a child to believe in things that only you agree with because that child is their own person. Of course it is ok to let children participate in religious traditions, but it is not ok to force them to believe in your opinion.

How can we expect children to live for themselves when they are treated as an object for their parents and others to shape for themselves and not the child. It is very selfish to force that on a child because their minds are very vulnerable. Children are not just some inanimate object that can be pushed around and forced to believe in un-evidenced opinions about who they need to worship or not to worship. They need to know what is right and wrong according to factual reasonings before they walk down the road of religion on their own terms.

Lady Gaga

by BEATRIZ SANCHEZ

Staff Writer

Over the years Lady Gaga has been a big topic for some and she has been talked about a lot.  Many people used to make fun of her for her creative outfits she brought to awards or her music videos.  I think Lady Gaga is a huge inspiration to young people because she doesn’t mind making her own fashion statement.  As many of us are in highschool we face many challenges with people making fun of other people for what they are wearing or what they look like.  She could be someone’s role model  just because she doesn’t care what people say about her creative outfits.

Even as crazy as she may seem her music is really emotional. Like one of her most recent songs Till it happens to you  is about  how some people just can’t understand things until it actually happens to them. The song is really about how her and the writer have experienced

Rape. It also shows how Gaga is so into her music and also that she is a really great singer.  It also shows that many people are affected by campus sexual assault. No matter how you look there is still a chance of it happening to you. And that you really can’t say anything until it actually happens to you because then you will understand.  At the Oscars she also sang this song and had many victims of rape come out and help her perform.  It was a beautiful performance and it will be unforgettable.

I’m going to always believe that she is a very important and inspirational  human being.
