Everyone stresses out everyday. Because of the stress, people then go to food for help, and it is not even healthy food. It is junk food! Many people use foods like chips and cookies to escape from their stress. Eating when you are stressed out, makes people feel happy and better. When one starts to stress out, “cortisol ramps up”, and it makes you want to eat salty, sugary, and fatty foods. A study even shows that if someone eats chocolate, the chocolate will make people feel happy, but, that happiness will only last temporarily. However, the good news is that there are other ways to feel better when it comes to stress.

  1. “Take a mustard bath.”

Now, what is this and how can you place mustard in water to make you feel better? Well, to make the mustard bath, you put mustard powder, baking soda, and important oils inside of the tub filled with warm water. This way of treating stress is used in England. A clinical psychologist at a Cleveland Clinic says,”Mustard is a warming agent so it works to relax your muscles and detoxify your body.”

  1. Color in a coloring book

You might think coloring is only for kids, but there are coloring books for adults too! These book are not only trendy now, but by coloring helps people improve their concentration and focus. Coloring is also a distraction that helps alleviate stress.

  1. Sleeping

Sleep is very hard to do if you have children, you are overworked, or you are just overwhelmed. The National Sleep Foundation recommends each night to “get into bed a half hour earlier each night and aim for seven to nine hours.”

  1. Arts and Crafts and Music

Being distracted is not a bad thing when it comes to stress. For example, one activity you can get your mind off of stress is origami. Origami “taps into the frontal lobe, the part of the brain that makes decisions and executes different functions.” Another way of getting your mind off stress is listening to music. Listening to music is a time of distraction where people feel, happy, confident, or relaxed, which makes you less likely to eat food.

In the end, basically all you need is to be distracted and get your mind off of stress. If none of these really work for you, then try thinking positive. However, if that does not work either, go ahead and eat. The key is that you need to take your time and be mindful of every bite so you do not go overboard.
