This has always been an issue for famous female celebrities, but recently is has been a growing problem. Ever since the Oscars aired, many viewers were enraged on the context of the question given. On the same day, Twitter’s top trending topic became #AskHerMore. This trending hashtag actually started up five years ago. A debate has surfaced with people either defending the designers’ chances of shining, or people defending the actresses.

Many circumstances have occurred that have not only angered viewers, but me as well. Referring back to the Oscars,  the men that are attending this event have questions regarding the acting community. While on the other hand, Lupita Nyong’o, one of the most powerful actresses of this time, gets asked about her dress. Questions like, “How many clutches did you have to choose from?” are so on the surface, it numbs your brain.

Sometimes actresses, singers, and other famous females fight back to this social concern. At one moment, when Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johansson were both doing an interview together for Marvel’s Avengers, Robert Downey Jr. received the question, “Tony Stark starts off as a very egotistical character, but learns how to fight as a team. And so how did you approach this role, bearing in mind that kind of maturity as a human being when it comes to the Tony Stark character, and did you learn anything throughout the three movies that you made?” While Scarlett Johansson was asked, “And to Scarlett, to get into shape for Black Widow, did you have anything special to do in terms of the diet? Did you have to eat any specific food, or that sort of thing?” Now hold up. If I were her, I would get totally offended by this and say something back, and that’s just what she did. To the reporter, Johansson replied, “How come you get the really interesting, existential question, and I get the like, “rabbit food” question?” Just like Johansson, we all are wondering why the females get the questions about clothes, diets, and boyfriends, while we hear others ask about their actual accomplishments. As the time goes on, more female celebrities are snapping back to the reporters, but hopefully it is the person who is holding the microphone who does a reality check.
